Career Development – Choosing the Right Path

Career Pathways is an executive coaching and career management strategy used in the United States for support workers during transitions in education to and through private industry. Career Pathways was created by Associate Professor Jennifer Marsh in the field of organizational behavior as a tool to assist employees in making career transition decisions. It has proven to be an effective program for managing transitions in many workplaces. The strategy was originally developed for executive coaching. The original intent is to help workers asses their own professional objectives, organize their career goals, set and achieve specific career objectives, and prepare for career transitions.

As a result, Career Pathways has been modified and expanded to be useful in any workplace environment. The original intent of Career Pathways was to provide executive coaching and assistance to employees who wanted a more flexible and adaptable approach to career planning for a future beyond the company. The program was designed to provide an integrated approach to transition from working at home to working in a corporate environment. Today, the program incorporates tools for mapping career paths, setting career goals, and preparing for a transition. Employees are taught to think about their careers in new ways that make it easier to identify their next steps in career development. They are taught about aligning personal and career goals, developing strategies to reach those goals, and using visualization and planning skills to connect their career path with their life goal.

There are several career path examples used in the Toolbox for transitions. You can choose which career path example you would like to use, or just look through the general category to get an idea of the tools and methods that will be available to you. The list contains career objective statements, career planning maps, career path tips, action plans, case studies, and other tools. Some of the resources also have links to resources and articles regarding the topics. These links provide additional information on how to use the tools and suggestions for developing your plan.

The third career path example is to examine your personality traits. Your personality is the foundation of your personality and your careers, so it makes sense that if you have a positive personality trait, you will most likely enjoy a successful career. However, if you lack an interest in your career, or if you are not interested in pursuing it, then you might find yourself in a situation where your current job will be challenging or unpleasant.

Once you know the skills, abilities, interests, and personality that you have, you can begin mapping your career path. In addition to mapping your current job, you should also map your future career. How will you determine what your future career path will be? Will you travel down an internal or external career path? What will your next step be?

The next step is to review the current job market. You should consider your target career path based on your aptitude, skills, interests, and personality. Do you think you have the skills, capabilities, interests, and personality to get into the top careers? Can you envision yourself successfully completing the various career paths you have mapped out? If not, will these careers be easier to achieve than others?

Finally, review your career objectives. How do you know if you have the right goals for your life? Your goals will guide you as you map your career path. For instance, if you want to be an assistant director at a boutique, you may wish to consider the responsibilities of an assistant director. Other considerations in your objective may include: how to balance work and family; your qualifications, such as a master’s degree; and what your ideal salary would be.

Your personal growth and professional advancement must be balanced with the proper amount of personal and professional care. One aspect of your life needs to be fulfilled before you move on to your next steps in your career path. You must be happy with the career path you chose and must be able to see yourself successfully completing the various roles within it. If you can see yourself in these roles, your career development will be a success.
